11/20 – at the Milk Bar

Singer/Songwriter with a sound all my own, reminiscent of Lana Del Rey and Fiona Apple with a hint of D'Angelo. Music feeds my soul.

Here’s a great article from Bustle featuring the movie soundtrack.
Check out the full lyrics and song below. Enjoy!
Harvey Dent
He waits for the right moment
Strikes at the opportune time
On the surface it all seems perfect
Underneath, it’s all a lieA smile is the best you’re given
But it never reaches his eyes
He’s good, he’ll be sure to tell you
But it’s just a thin disguiseChorus
He’ll never make a groom
And he’s never a gent
All the days together
Won’t be time well spentAt best he’s a ruse
With full intent
To use and confuse
His mind’s all bentVerse 2
His words will make you feel safer
But his motives are always unkind
Maybe he wants to be better
(but) Compassion’s in short supply. In his world this is how it’s done now
He won’t fight by your side
His soul is truly broken
His heart, completely blind. If you want to stay a part of his story
Your future doesn’t look bright
You’re just a mere accessory
To delusions in his mind.He is the only hero
In the chapters of his life
His vision is rosy and clouded
No hope he’ll see the light.Verse 3
You’ve come to the final stages
Here’s a word of advice
Walk right out of these pages
Turn away, and don’t think twice. The view up ahead is gorgeous
You’ve got your own verses to write
Not much left in him to care for
If love’s your chosen prize.Chorus
He’ll never make a groom
And he’s never a gent
All the days together
Won’t be time well spentAt best he’s a ruse
With full intent
To use and confuse
He’s Harvey Dent!
New song Broken, Perfect has just been released and I’d love to tell you more about it!
I think of all the music I’m working on right now for my new album and I really feel like it’s me. It’s very strange to remember how my first album felt so fitting and perfect when I finished it a year and a half ago. My style has changed completely, and though all the songs I’ve ever written are a strong representation of me, it’s funny how the old album seems so alien now. The concepts are still the same, but I’ve evolved as a songwriter. When I first wrote Porcelain Doll and actually finished it as my first completed single (ever) nearly three years ago, I thought it was the best song I would ever write in my entire life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e_r10Nli-o. I was truly concerned I would never be able to write something more meaningful and emotionally involved. Then I finished an entire album. While I still think Porcelain Doll is one of my favourite songs on the album, I wrote Curtain which I thought was at least as good, and in some ways, maybe even better.
The new series of songs I’m working on, however, have genuinely surprised me. I never thought I would be shift in the direction I have, but I’ve really been able to test and push myself because of it. It’s opened up a lot of creative space in my mind as well, and I’m deeply grateful for it.
Wishing everyone an amazing Friday. 🙂

Max sent across a completely revised version of Impossible a few weeks ago, and it sounds amazing. The song has so much depth now, I can’t even begin to describe how much I love it. Every time I listen to it to practice it, I remember exactly why I wrote it and how I felt when I did. I can’t wait to finish it up and set it free on the web. 🙂
I’ve been working on the rest of my new album with my voice teacher producing the tracks. Robert’s really great to work with, and has an incredible scope of musical knowledge. Some of my best moments are in the studio working with producers like him and Max. I am truly lucky.
I’d set a goal of finishing three new songs in my last post, and I’m done with one of the three. I know what the other two will be, which I guess is a step in the right direction. Wish me luck on finishing the rest soon!
Can’t wait to write the next update, super excited and hope I get to share some new music.
Tchau,

Amazing Saturday, went for a swim, worked on music, had lunch with good friends, fantastic weather, and just had a great voice lesson working on one of my original songs. My voice instructor told me the 15/8 time signature totally works, and I’m really excited to keep working on it until it’s good enough to perform live. Can’t wait!

Big thank you to Max Savage, Chris Linke, Matt Boudreau, musicians, and friends and family who made this all possible. I am so happy. 🙂
Working on two new songs. I finished writing one of them six years ago and put it on the back burner for years…it felt great to pick it up again and still be able to work on it like it was fresh in my mind. Both of these will hopefully go on a new album soon.
There’s so much I want to get done, and I keep stalling and being to stressed out to do anything. Argh. Generating ideas, but I need to nail down some of them to create concrete songs and videos. The music video for Night Time Story is proving to be a little more difficult than originally envisioned. Being a producer is a lot harder than being an artist, as I have immediate and absolute control over what I create when I’m doing my own work. Will keep chipping away at everything. Wish me luck. 🙂
