Cycles Reboot

Today’s been a great day. I made it through a tough workout class in the morning that I was not looking forward to (I usually feel really good after the class is over and I can cross it off my list of things to do). I felt energized instead of enervated at the end of it, despite being physically tired. Then I met with my voice teacher to continue working on Cycles, one of the songs he and I co-wrote that we’re looking to finish and release early next year. I was dancing to the beat most of the time in the studio; I liked it so much. The song sounds very cool and interesting right now, like a call to action.

Deep Open Space and Beyond

Max sent across a completely revised version of Impossible a few weeks ago, and it sounds amazing. The song has so much depth now, I can’t even begin to describe how much I love it. Every time I listen to it to practice it, I remember exactly why I wrote it and how I felt when I did. I can’t wait to finish it up and set it free on the web. 🙂

I’ve been working on the rest of my new album with my voice teacher producing the tracks. Robert’s really great to work with, and has an incredible scope of musical knowledge. Some of my best moments are in the studio working with producers like him and Max. I am truly lucky.

I’d set a goal of finishing three new songs in my last post, and I’m done with one of the three. I know what the other two will be, which I guess is a step in the right direction. Wish me luck on finishing the rest soon!

Can’t wait to write the next update, super excited and hope I get to share some new music.

Fantasy Realms

An hour just flew by as I doodled out a cover of Little Dragon’s Twice. I have no intention of ever performing it, but I absolutely love the simplicity and beauty of the song. My original plan was to work on tweaking the chords on my latest song, but I couldn’t resist. I’ve created an amazing, fantasy space of my own in my room over the past couple of hours, where I’ve been listening to Max’s latest version of the single we’re working on, practicing Twice, and working on the production of one of the songs I finished writing last week. For the first time in weeks, I’ve finally found a pocket of peace and calm. I’m really grateful for it…it’s been a crazy few months.

Getting Closer To The Finish Line

And yes! I’ve finished all three songs for the next gig. I now have 6 songs done for a new EP, 8 songs in total that are performance ready. I’m only planning to use 2 songs from my first album if there’s a longer gig in the fall, sadly. I’ll need a total of 10 songs for about 45-50 minutes of performance time…there’s an old song that I’ve finished writing the lyrics for, but I still need to work on the chords for song number 9. What’s my final song going to be about?? Super excited to explore this idea, but I have no pending concepts to flesh out. It’ll have to be something brand new. Lots of numbers in this post. 🙂

Success!

I managed to finish writing the lyrics for the song I was feeling blocked on last night. I’ve still got the chords left to work on, and I’m still wrestling with the 5/4 time signature. I’m going to get some feedback on it during my voice lesson tomorrow. If the time signature sounds too forced, it may be time to abandon it for something a bit more normal. I’m really hoping I can make it work, though! Only one more song left for the gig now.

Brain Locked

I’ve had some extra time over the past few days, and I’ve managed to finish writing one song out of three for my next gig in August. I’m prepping for a longer show sometime later in the fall. I’m stuck on song number two, and have no ideas for the third. Song number two is rough and it’s in 5/4 time signature. I’ll admit, while 5/4 is my favorite time signature, it’s not an easy one to work with. I need to find some emotional inspiration for the song as I’m drawing a blank on the lyrics, though I’m extremely excited about the concept I’ve sketched out for the song. If I get it right, this could be a really cool song. Drawing a blank on words, though, that’s not normal…Frustrated. 🙁

Woodkid Concert

20131025_005122 20131024_194700 20131025_000045I went to see Woodkid live today. Great show, amazing music, but the coolest part was what happened after. I decided to stay after the concert (which I never do) to get autographs and chat with the musicians briefly if I could get the chance. I was one of the first people there, and started chatting with the pianist in the group, who happened to be the first musician to step outside. That conversation led to more with the other members of the band, and before I knew it I allowed myself to be led away to a 9 story mansion for an after party for the crew. Met super cool people, hung out with awesome musicians, and had the chance to give out my cards and CDs. Wow, I have no idea how that all happened. All I did was wait around at the right place at the right time.

It’s nearly 2 am…hello and a big kiss to one of the most beautiful days I have ever known.

ALL TRACKS FINALIZED…EP IS DONE!

Getting close to the finish!

Max just sent across a final mix for the second to the last song we have left to go on the album, and he’s going to start work on the last song left tomorrow. We’re so close to being done! I can’t wait to hear it and send all six tracks off for mastering.
