Max just sent across a stunning version of Curtain. We’re more than halfway there now. We’ve decided on where to get the songs mastered and have a final deadline worked out. I was almost worried my energy level would fizzle out towards the end even though I’m no longer intensively working on any of the production for the music or the video. But it looks like it’s still alive and kicking.

Chasing Around Sanity
There’s so much I want to get done, and I keep stalling and being to stressed out to do anything. Argh. Generating ideas, but I need to nail down some of them to create concrete songs and videos. The music video for Night Time Story is proving to be a little more difficult than originally envisioned. Being a producer is a lot harder than being an artist, as I have immediate and absolute control over what I create when I’m doing my own work. Will keep chipping away at everything. Wish me luck. 🙂
Vocals Done!
Two nights of vocal recordings done…Loved every second of it. About to drink some herbal magic mix to repair my vocal chords. I torched my back as well and the sprain’s resurfaced again. Almost time to take my exhausted body to bed. My world is at peace tonight. I love you, Universe!
Closing The Gap
At 53% on Kickstarter, with less than 5 days left. In a few hours, it’ll be four days:Â http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/622384021/music-video-night-time-story. We need to raise $940 in four days. Hmmmmm.
Trials and Tribulations
I sprained my back pretty badly a few weeks ago. Practicing singing standing up or even sitting has been really difficult over the past couple of weeks, except when I’m taking pain relievers. I’m deeply grateful I’m working with a music producer like Max. I told him I was in a lot of pain last week and that I was really worried about the fast approaching vocal recording sessions. He winced out of empathy but his steady response was, “we’ll make it work, even if we have to record one song a day we’ll figure it out. And at the end of it, it’ll just be a good story.” I was terrified it was a disc related injury but my physiotherapist diagnosed it as a sprain on Monday, and expects it to heal fully in a few weeks. What a relief. I’m already feeling better this week compared to last week, and hope next week is even better. One major upside to all this was discovering that I actually sound better on a couple of the tracks lying down. Definitely trying that during the recording sessions.
Flow
The producer I’m working with sent me a rough draft of his work on one of the songs on the album last night. I got it this morning first thing after I woke up and spent the next 30 minutes listening. What he’s done with it sounds amazing. Simply amazing. He’s used really sparse instrumentation just as I had envisioned it, and I’m glad we both fell into the same wavelength on the first try with this one. It brought me to tears as I kept listening to it. Really looking forward to the next draft!
And we’re off!
Max (the producer) sent back several versions of a couple of my songs and they sound…amazing. I was sneakily listening to them for a few minutes at work and I had to stop because I started tearing up. He and another member of Stages of Sleep are working together on producing my album. They’re making my songs sound so much better than I ever could. I’m really looking forward to finishing things up and releasing the album early next year. You can check out Stages of Sleep at this link: http://thestagesofsleep.com/. I heard them live at their album launch party a few weeks ago. They’re great, so definitely give them a listen. 🙂
We’re trying to record sometime in January or early February, so I’ve got about a month to beat my voice into shape. Practicing doesn’t use up much willpower, but not straining my voice practicing and not going to bars and clubs and loud parties is a little harder during the holiday season. Herbal tea and honey are constant companions now. I can hear myself getting a little better every week, which feels good.
There’s another music video in the works as well. I’ll post an update once we start working on things. I’m supposed to meet with the video director sometime this week. I can barely contain my excitement.
Engines In Motion
The producer and I finally met a couple of weeks ago to talk shop. And he just started working on the tracks. I can’t wait, I just can’t wait to hear what he does with them. 🙂
Progress!
I met a local producer/sound engineer last Thursday night at an event in the city. Really grateful to the friends who invited me to attend and made the introduction. We both really like each others’ work, so it looks like we might move ahead with a partnership. Of course, now it’s about chasing people down to meet. Everybody’s always busy…But I am really excited about the possibility of things working out.
Last song finished!
I finished up a draft of the only song left on the album last night. Now I need to find a producer/sound engineer to help me polish the arrangements and master the tracks. It feels great, and I really, really hope I can finish up the album in the next couple of months.
