Closing The Gap

At 53% on Kickstarter, with less than 5 days left. In a few hours, it’ll be four days: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/622384021/music-video-night-time-story. We need to raise $940 in four days. Hmmmmm.

Castello di Amorosa Finalized as Location! and Kickstarter

Castello Di Amorosa

After weeks of chasing people down, we finalized our location. I’m so thrilled. We’re on their calendar now, so it’s official. We’re shooting at the Castello Di Amorosa winery in Napa. The castle is beautiful; check out their website: http://www.castellodiamorosa.com/.

Shameless plug…We’re running out of time on Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/622384021/music-video-night-time-story. We only have a week left, and $1,115 to raise to make another music video. Here’s the video we made for Porcelain Doll: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XlkTAQogqr4. I’m extremely proud of what were able to achieve last time, and I really hope we can do it again.

I was doing the math the other day, and if we could get 100 people to contribute $5 (the price of coffee or a drink at a bar), that would be a quarter of our budget. 200 people would be half our budget. What does it take to get 200 people to trust you and care enough to contribute the price of coffee to an art project? Hope we figure it out in time.

Day(5)

Trials and Tribulations

I sprained my back pretty badly a few weeks ago. Practicing singing standing up or even sitting has been really difficult over the past couple of weeks, except when I’m taking pain relievers. I’m deeply grateful I’m working with a music producer like Max. I told him I was in a lot of pain last week and that I was really worried about the fast approaching vocal recording sessions. He winced out of empathy but his steady response was, “we’ll make it work, even if we have to record one song a day we’ll figure it out. And at the end of it, it’ll just be a good story.” I was terrified it was a disc related injury but my physiotherapist diagnosed it as a sprain on Monday, and expects it to heal fully in a few weeks. What a relief. I’m already feeling better this week compared to last week, and hope next week is even better. One major upside to all this was discovering that I actually sound better on a couple of the tracks lying down. Definitely trying that during the recording sessions.

Jump into the cycle

We just had our first couple of kick off brainstorming sessions for the new music video. And we’ve already got a concept and a possible location. It feels crazy to think that we all went through the exact same process last year at around the same time, when I met up with my friend who was one of the writers for the concept for the first music video, Porcelain Doll: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XlkTAQogqr4. We then met the director of the video and the rest, as they say, is history. Amazing how quickly this year went by and equally amazing that we all decided to do it all over again.

Super excited about it–my energy levels are really high these days, I can’t help myself. I almost feel like I could convince myself to run a marathon on the fly. Almost. It’s magical, I can sit in front of a computer for hours and hours a day at a job that is rewarding only because my co-workers are awesome, and fantasize about the beautiful locations we may be shooting at.

Flow

The producer I’m working with sent me a rough draft of his work on one of the songs on the album last night. I got it this morning first thing after I woke up and spent the next 30 minutes listening. What he’s done with it sounds amazing. Simply amazing. He’s used really sparse instrumentation just as I had envisioned it, and I’m glad we both fell into the same wavelength on the first try with this one. It brought me to tears as I kept listening to it. Really looking forward to the next draft!

Horticulture

There’s a grubby little plant sitting prominently in front of the main window in my living room. It introduced insects into my house, shed dirt everywhere as I unwrapped it, and caused the largest number of changes to my morning routine as it requires being watered daily and a lot of sunshine. It’s a needy, high maintenance attention whore, unlike my mellow and gorgeous orchids. I can never run out of the house and ignore my living room anymore. But I still find it endearing. And it forces me to raise my blinds and bring in sunshine into my place every day.

I spoke to a good friend of mine who knows a lot about plants a couple of months ago, and she said even the orchids need sun. I almost felt a little guilty, as I’d been taking my generous plants for granted. So maybe the new plant is doing my beloved orchids some good as well.

A few days ago, I noticed some new shoots on all three of my plants. The orchids are going to bloom for sure. The strange new plant may die despite my efforts, but for now I’m hoping the sprouting growth on it will eventually become beautiful flowers someday.
