Ecstatic Moments and Reality Checks

Had another gig at Martuni’s on Monday, and it was great. This is a photo of me singing my new song, Impossible: https://soundcloud.com/samayaformusic/impossible-piano-and-vocals. I saw Karsh Kale in concert tonight, which was such an amazing experience that it made me feel like anything and everything was possible in life.

The music industry, though, is a competitive and extremely difficult space with no guarantee of a steady income. This is what I get even from people who are close to broke but absolutely love what they do. Being the kind of person that I am, I’ve always had to learn to navigate fitting into systems while really being on the fringes of it. Some of us get really lucky and don’t ever have to learn what it means to make a compromise in life. For some of us, life is only ever comprised of things you settled for. Is it a difference in attitude? Or just sheer luck?

All I know for sure is, I felt really lucky at Martuni’s, and truly grateful to the universe to have had such a great night tonight listening to amazing music and hanging out with great friends.

Joy

Amazing Saturday, went for a swim, worked on music, had lunch with good friends, fantastic weather, and just had a great voice lesson working on one of my original songs. My voice instructor told me the 15/8 time signature totally works, and I’m really excited to keep working on it until it’s good enough to perform live. Can’t wait!

ALL TRACKS FINALIZED…EP IS DONE!

Big thank you to Max Savage, Chris Linke, Matt Boudreau, musicians, and friends and family who made this all possible. I am so happy. 🙂

Fresh ideas blossom

Working on two new songs. I finished writing one of them six years ago and put it on the back burner for years…it felt great to pick it up again and still be able to work on it like it was fresh in my mind. Both of these will hopefully go on a new album soon.

Getting close to the finish!

Max just sent across a final mix for the second to the last song we have left to go on the album, and he’s going to start work on the last song left tomorrow. We’re so close to being done! I can’t wait to hear it and send all six tracks off for mastering.

Only Two Songs Left To Finish!

Max just sent across a stunning version of Curtain. We’re more than halfway there now. We’ve decided on where to get the songs mastered and have a final deadline worked out. I was almost worried my energy level would fizzle out towards the end even though I’m no longer intensively working on any of the production for the music or the video. But it looks like it’s still alive and kicking.

Video Shoot Completed!

We’ll work on editing and adding the visual effects portions next. We’ve got a long haul ahead of us, but it’s been a blast so far. Can’t wait to get started on the next part. 🙂

Sudden Inspiration

Just started putting together the skeleton of a song I finished writing six years ago. It’s probably the most straightforward song I’ve ever composed and I’m hoping all the experience I’ve gained writing the songs for the EP will make this one easier. I’m excited to see it come together. The lyrics are particularly relevant the current time frame in my life. Wish me luck, world!

Vocals Done!

Two nights of vocal recordings done…Loved every second of it. About to drink some herbal magic mix to repair my vocal chords. I torched my back as well and the sprain’s resurfaced again. Almost time to take my exhausted body to bed. My world is at peace tonight. I love you, Universe!
